You know, some days you look back and think, "I’m glad I didn’t give up."In the early days of my "Active" Recovery Journey, there were so many times when I wanted to throw in the towel. #thisisnotthatdayI remember being so angry on this one day early on in my recovery. I probably had less than two years of sobriety. I remember being angry at God. I was in my car, driving away from my problems. On my drive, I said to God that if He does not intervene, I am definitely going to relapse. I remember saying that to God. I said that is "it," I’ve had it with this recovery "thing," and that if nothing came up on my drive to stop me, then I was going to intentionally relapse.I don’t know what happened on my way to relapse, but something changed. I wasn’t just complaining to God; I was actually praying to God. I can’t remember what thought came into my mind, but something changed. I thought of something, and it helped with that moment of lapse. I turned around and talked to the person I was angry with, and I said it was some type of miracle.Today, I am definitely glad I did not relapse at that time. After this point, I took the program seriously, joined a home group, got a sponsor, and seriously followed the steps to the best of my ability with the guidance of my sponsor. He really helped me through the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. I credit him for teaching me the difference between "passive" recovery and "Active" recovery.Achieving multiple years of "Active" recovery is not easy.
