You know that maintaining a spiritual connection is THE way to maintain “active” recovery as a “recovery warrior." So, friend, how do you create a routine to help you do it?The answer? By developing a spiritual habit that you can repeat every day.What do I mean by that? I mean that achieving multiple years of “active” sobriety takes practice and perseverance. When you connect with your spirit regularly, you’ll spend less time procrastinating and more time getting results!Plus, you’ll start to develop your own unique “Recovery Warrior” style.Here’s what I do to achieve a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of my spiritual condition:Sobriety-Focused Traditional Practices: Many indigenous cultures have spiritual practices and ceremonies that can support sobriety and contribute to recovery from substance use disorder. Adapting or focusing these rituals on your journey to sobriety can offer a dual benefit: it can help maintain a connection to the Creator while also reinforcing your commitment to recovery.Mindfulness, Prayer, and Meditation: Mindfulness techniques, often integral to both indigenous spirituality and modern recovery methods, can offer a way to both connect with the Creator and maintain sobriety. Prayer and meditation can be used as coping mechanisms during times of temptation or stress, serving as a personal or communal way to seek guidance or strength from a higher power.Environmental Stewardship as a Recovery Activity: Immersing oneself in nature and taking part in the stewardship of ancestral or sacred lands can serve dual purposes. For many indigenous peoples, land is deeply tied to spirituality and the Creator. Acts of environmental care can therefore serve as a spiritual practice while also offering a positive, sober activity that replaces the time and energy previously devoted to substance use.You’d be surprised at how quickly you can get results when you create a routine and make sure you at least pray and meditate at the same time every day.Should we chat?
