Do you have a favourite brand, mentor, or influencer?Mine has got to be, apart from the Creator, my first instructor when I became an alcohol and drug counsellor.They opened my eyes to the power of working in a group. I was halfway through my certificate when I realized I wanted to become a group facilitator. It is all because of my first interactions with this instructor that led me to this conclusion. I love facilitating workshops, even though I do so little of it lately, but the power of change that can happen in a group setting is so powerful that just one exercise can change your whole life.So halfway through the year, I started taking two sets of notes: one set was what the instructors were teaching us, and the other set of notes was how the instructor was teaching us. What techniques did they use to get us to form a group? There are five stages to group development. I’ve only achieved the ‘performing’ stage once in all the workshops I hosted, but it was an unforgettable experience.Because of him, I’ve been able to:Say that I have seven years of counselling experience in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, Canada.Say that I have an additional seven years of managing four alcohol and drug programs.Say that I now have my Master's Degree in Professional Communication and that I am now the Executive Director of a potentially successful non-profit society.Finding people who inspire and motivate you is what it’s all about, right?Please share their page in the comments.
