Whether you’re looking to begin your "Active" Recovery journey, take significant steps that can lead to permanent recovery, or outright own your own treatment center, it can be a real challenge to make it happen.It is completely understandable why people fail to succeed in achieving "Active" recovery. Not to mention that everyone’s journey to sobriety is different; everyone’s specific obstacles differ.There are psychological and emotional factors to overcome. As a 60’s Scoop Survivor, Indigenous People of Canada struggle with trauma, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Many lack a strong support network. They have been shunned by their friends, their family, and even other people in recovery. They feel isolated, misunderstood, or tempted to relapse.Many struggle with mental health issues as well, which can include bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, or post-traumatic stress disorder. This is what came up in the first argument: the chicken or the egg, the mental health issue or the addiction.Another factor to overcome is the environment in which they live. Do they have easy access to alcohol or drugs? Do the majority of their friends drink alcohol or use drugs? Is their neighborhood unstable or full of high levels of stress? Do they face social stigma or discrimination? Do they lack easy access to treatment?These all lead to significant chances of relapse if their cravings are not addressed. Relapse is part of the recovery process until we take significant actions that permanently maintain our sobriety. We need a solid foundation for "Active" Recovery. &nbsp;This solid foundation of recovery acts as a safety net when stressful situations are encountered or when we become triggered. Sometimes the person is not even ready for change. They lack motivation. Recovery requires motivation and the readiness to make significant lifestyle changes. Without motivation or readiness to change, maintaining permanent sobriety becomes difficult.Luckily, there are plenty of simple steps you can take to sidestep the potholes and stay on track.I'm breaking down the steps it took me to reach "Active" Sobriety since July 28, 1996, so that you can do the same:<ol><li>Find at least one supportive person. This could be a professional, a trusted friend, or a family member. We need at least one person who supports the changes we are making.</li><li>Go to treatment, access our online services, or seek out a counselor or psychologist. Please ensure these organizations know what "Active" Recovery looks and feels like. Ensure they have walked the red road.</li><li>Become determined to succeed. Be truly willing to stand on your head in the corner for the whole meeting. Do whatever it takes to overcome the challenges and obstacles at your feet. Remember, overcoming addictive behaviors is challenging and complex, but you can address these obstacles through comprehensive treatment approaches and ongoing support.</li></ol>Are you ready to fast-track your success?
