I remember when I was first introduced to alcohol. I was addicted to alcohol for ten years of my life, from the age of 16 until 26. I could remember the warm, fuzzy, light feeling in the pit of my stomach. I was addicted to the feeling immediately. At the time, I was probably dealing with the lost feelings of being a 60’s Scoop Survivor, but I did not realize it until now.Flash forward to today, and I now have over 27 years of sobriety. I have a master's degree and am the Executive Director of an organization that is starting to be recognized by funders. My wife and I recently celebrated 23 years of marriage. My wife and I own our own home. We went to the same church for 18 years, then we moved and found a new church family. I feel like I am creating an identity that I never had when I was growing up. And lastly, and more importantly, our chequebook is balanced.That was 27 years ago. It’s been a wild ride, and I’m so thankful for every minute of it.How long have you been living a lifestyle of substance use?
