Life’s full of opportunities, right?When it comes to living a sober "recovering" life, some of those opportunities can be found in new tools and even systems for things you do every day.For example, I recently discovered a new initial process to cut to the chase that will save you some time in taking responsibility for your "addictive" lifestyle actions.Here’s how it works:Step 1: Ask yourself, Who is really responsible? &nbsp;Sometimes, we get stuck in constant "quick fixes" for long-standing problems. We did not end up in these situations overnight. Please see our previous post on journaling every night.Step 2: When we are living with the pressure of the consequences of our addictive lifestyle, thinking clearly is difficult. We need to consider the following to help us think more clearly:<ol><li>Ask ourselves, How long can we continue on this path before we hit bottom? &nbsp;Like the catastrophe countdown timer, do we have months? Weeks? &nbsp;Days? &nbsp;Minutes?</li><li>Are there really any easier or softer ways? Sometimes, we do need quick fixes to get us out of the cycle temporarily, as long as we realize this is a temporary solution that we will need to replace with permanent solutions in the future.</li><li>Please communicate your decision to transition into active recovery with those who are closest to you. Let them know you will be going through some changes and to please support those changes.</li></ol>Step 3: Struggle through the changes together. Focus on what needs to be done that is currently right in front of you. You will see that there is a never-ending list of things to complete. It will always be there. Tackle these lists with a clear mind, free from alcohol and drug use and misuse. Ask yourself:<ul><li>What must be done immediately?</li><li>How can I reduce the harm felt by those I love the most from my addictive lifestyle?</li><li>How can I make things right after decades of neglect?</li></ul>Step 4: Decide what to do and actually "do it." &nbsp;What is the alternative to "not" taking action?Step 5: Review your progress as outlined in "My nighttime self-care routine: How I unwind after a busy day."PRO TIP: "We are responsible for the mess our addictive lifestyle created.
