I was sitting in class to learn how to become an addiction counselor and really struggling with what I wanted to do next. I had just taken the introductory course and was ready to start something new; I just didn't know what it was.At the time, I had a lot of ideas and things I had been toying with, but I just couldn't focus on any one of them. Nothing really felt right.So I decided to stop forcing any one idea and let the "right" idea come to me instead.That's the day I realized that my true passion is doing workshops. I did not realize it right away, but halfway through the counseling certificate, I realized I wanted to work with groups. It was all due to the interactions with the first-course instructor. So I started taking two sets of notes: one set for what the instructor was teaching and one set for the way they were teaching. I learned a lot about group facilitation, and I constantly use it whenever I can. Being a 60’s Scoop Survivor and "Recovering Alcoholic," all I really want to do is pass on my knowledge of how I got to this stage of my life.That forever changed the course of my "Recovery" journey.
