Raise your hand if you ever made a big investment that you seriously regretted later on.Mine was investing in people who have no appreciation for the gifts or talents I possess. We said to stick with the winners in a previous post. What this means to us is that we should learn from other people’s mistakes. This way, you can avoid the pitfalls or at least realize what is happening before 10, 15, or 20 years pass before you realize you are in the wrong environment.Three things I learned from investing in the wrong people or organizations are:<ol><li>Assess their character and trustworthiness. I learned to assess individuals character and trustworthiness before entering partnerships or relationships. I learned to look for red flags like consistent dishonesty, unreliability, or a pattern of not following through. Watch how they handle conflicts or setbacks. Learn to discern their character traits.</li><li>​Recognizing compatibility and alignment: investing in the wrong people or organizations gives you a great opportunity to discover your values, goals, and visions. To be successful now, you need to find individuals and societies that are compatible with your goals and visions. This is the reason we are developing the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.jdassociates.ca/pl/2147653863">“Recovery Warriors Tribe.”</a>&nbsp;We want to find "like-minded" individuals who know and feel what true recovery is about. Finding other individuals who are not on the same healing journey leads to conflicts, inefficiencies, or unfulfilled expectations. In our process, we are weeding out individuals who do not align with our mission.</li><li>​Enhancing due diligence and research: When investing in people or organizations, it is important to use due diligence (lol) and research before making any type of commitment. Investigate the individual's background, past experiences, and track record. Research their reputation, seek references or recommendations, and assess their qualifications. Digging deeper helps make more informed decisions, mitigates risks, and prevents potential pitfalls. Doing these things will help you invest in the types of people you do want to work with.</li></ol>It’s funny how your worst investment can be your best investment.I learned so much from that decision. That one blooper gave me the kick in the pants I needed to focus on my real passion, and I haven’t looked back since.What’s the worst investment you’ve made?
